The light will once again be available for those who wish to come and take it. The Peace Light will be available from December 15th to December 23rd. Last year, over 70 people came to the Cathedral during the course of two weeks in December, some coming from as far away as Binghamton and Scranton, to take the light from the Cathedral.
The tradition of distributing the Peace Light began at the Cathedral in 2008. Every year since then (with the exception of 2014), the Bethlehem Peace Light has been brought to the Cathedral, where the faithful and general public can come and take the light.
Like last year, we ask that you email the Cathedral Office (firstname.lastname@example.org) to make an appointment to come and take the light. As always, you will find the Peace Light on the Shrine of Our Lady of Grace, where you may leave your intentions. These will be placed near the crib on Christmas Eve. Of course, members of the Cathedral parish family may take their light at anytime after the Christmas Eve Divine Liturgy, Christmas Vigil Service, Midnight Divine Liturgy, or Christmas morning Divine Liturgy/Te Deum.
This year, the Peace Light arrived at Our Lady of the Skies Catholic Chapel at John F. Kennedy International Airport on November 28th. We are grateful to our dear friends, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Amarosa, for once again bringing the light to us from New York. May God bless them abundantly for their kindness and help.
